Zoological Park along with the State Botanical Garden
and Kanjia lake has been notified as a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1979 over
an area of 3.47 square kilometers. Many
free living wildlife including 13 species of mammals,15 species of
reptiles, 71 species of birds, 20 species of amphibians, 85 species of
butterflies, 55 species of dragon flies & damsel flies and 51
species of spiders have been documented so far in Nandankanan Wildlife
sanctuary. 704 species of plants have also been recorded inside the sanctuary area.
